Google Voice Catastrophe?
Google Voice launched phone number porting. After reading about it on Mashable and watching the video, the first question I asked myself was why would I want to cancel my current cell phone service? (We all know how insanely high early termination fees are.)
Then, I found an article on wired where the guy states he did this, and was charged when he could have just requested a change of phone number and avoided a ton of fees.
Where I get confused, is why would google go this route in the first place? Second, why would an existing google voice user want to get yet ANOTHER number to give out to your contacts?
Third, the whole reason I got a google voice number, was so I DIDN’T have to give out my primary phone number, and use the forwarding feature to my cell!?!?!?!?!?
Maybe I am not fully understanding all the benefits behind this service, or maybe it all just depends on the users needs. I do know this tho, there are going to be a ton of people getting charges they don’t want if they do not do their research first.
I am going to leave my service the way it is. Way too confusing for me!
